Mountain Biking Behind the House
One of the best aspects of living in Park City is the HUGE network of mountain bike trails that are easily accessible from most anywhere in town. There are more than 10 trail-heads within a 5 minute ride from my front door, which lead to a network of more than 300 miles of trails. These trails are all maintained by the good folks at the Mountain Trails foundation, so most everything is in top shape all summer long.
Tonight I decided to do a quick ride up the hill behind my house. The loop I did consists of the Gamble Oak and Solamere trails, with about 600 vertical feet of climbing. The downhill into Solamere is great because it's so smooth, with tons of switchbacks and fairly narrow singletrack. The loop is about 3.5 miles, and only takes about a 1/2 hour.
Lately I've been playing around with a cool little video camera called the GoPro Hero (http://www.goprocamera.com/). This is definitely one of the smallest digital video cameras on the market, and it records everything on an SD card, so there are no moving parts. The camera is enclosed in a waterproof case that mounts very well on bike handlebars. I put together a quick little edit of some footage from earlier tonight, so you can see how well this camera works mounted on a bike. You do lose a little quality uploading videos to a sharing site, but Vimeo seems to have better quality than most.
Let me know what you think of the footage, and I should have some more in the coming weeks. I really want to strap this camera to my downhill bike and get some footage on the crazy trails at Deer Valley.
In website news, Casey and I should be hitting the road in the coming week to gather restaurant information for the major ski towns in Colorado and Wyoming. This should be a month-long roadtrip to about 10 ski towns with world class dining. Stayed tuned for our action packed travel blog adventures...
