New ownership and a remodel in 2014 ... Same great food and drink, maybe some menu changes... Better decor and great service. Expanded the bar twice the original size with just as much seating. I love the soup specials and beet salad. Locals like to sit out by the fire pit, great for singles/couples and room for small families.
When I stayed in Breck back in Jan I ate here 3x, I love this place. Super chill and nothing special, just good bar food and great atmosphere ! I highly recommend it ! I will be back for more !
While the appetizers were good (Calamari, Roasted Beet Salad), we were highly disappointed in the Dungeness Crab entree. There was so little meat for all the work necessary and although it was described as stuffed with crab meat & portebella mushrooms there was little of that as well. The king crab legs were a better offering but since we shared our 2 crab dishes there was not enough of the king crab legs to satisfy us both. We left hungry after a $100 meal. Our waiter, Jason, was helpful and mentioned our disappointment to the chef. The chef offered to make us another Dungeness Crab but we declined not wanting to go through all the effort to find little meat again. The music was not appropriate for the dining room but more for the lounge area and was extremely loud. Jason did turn it down for us. Will not go back, there are too many other restaurants in Breck that are much better and definitely worth the price.
We sat out on the patio on a gorgeous June evening and that was the best part of the evening. Service was good, but the food was average at best. Artichoke / jalepeno dip was good as were the salads. Main entrees were a complete disappointment. My husband ordered a steak which was overdone and very marbled, difficult to eat! I had the Whaler, sounded great on the menu, but what I got was overdone fish on white rice with three horrible sauces that tasted canned. Go to Whales Tail for drinks / appetizers, skip it for dinner!
I've been to the whale's tail several times and every time is more fun that the last. My girlfriends and I got to grab appetizers then sit at the bar and catch the entertainment. It is a great place to meet out of town guys looking to buy us drinks. It can get loud and raucous and sometimes even a bit smokey back by the bathrooms, if you know what I mean ;-) Check it out and be prepared for fun, fun, fun!
Should have known better. Arrived Saturday at about 7:15pm. The place was empty but decided to try anyway. The place is dirty, even the physical menus had food on them. My wife decided to try the Filet Oscar and I opted for the 8oz strip with grilled shrimp. The wife had a couple of bites out of hers and commented that the crab seemed foul and the so-called filet seemed like old supermarket hamburger. The entire entrée was smothered in some sort of strange sauce. My steak was overcooked. Normally I would not mind if the meat was tender and not dredged through a bucket of Morton salt. One bite out of that was enough. The grilled shrimp was overcooked. It was smothered what I believe to be mustard and peanuts. Neither of us ate our meals. We drove to Frisco and found a nice place named Tuscato for dinner. Avoid the Whale’s Tail in Breckenridge.
